Air pump of a 10 gallon.

i just recently bought a 10 gallon tank and i have cycled it and introduced fish. I was wondering what air pump would be good for it. i have 6 platys in the aquarium right now. My filter is providing a okay amount of oxygen, would it be worth my money to buy a air pump?

I would say yes.

And get one that can handle at least two airstones (read info in the pump box, most unit with a single output will handle at least two). I have found a way to keep airpumps noise baffled, which is to find a way to hang it so it doesn't touch anything but air.

Remember to use a check valve (to prevent water getting inside the unit) and consider purchasing plastic valves to divert and adjust air flow as needed.

It would be a good idea to get a small (in tank, attached to the wall) sponge filter. That way you have a back-up in biological filtration, and use a long airstone or bubble wall hose to run it along the rear wall. Aesthetics bonus aside, it will complement dissolved levels of Oxygen for your fish.

I use Whisper air pumps, of differing sizes for different tanks. They are virtually silent & inexpensive- and I have never had any problems with them
