I've got a ten-gallon tank with half a dozen diamond tetras and two sterbai corys in it. The corys were just introduced from quarantine yesterday and one of them had slightly pink gills so I was advised to get a bubble wand so as to increase the aeration of the tank (the ammonia levels etc were all fine). Anyway, I got the bubble wand today and, even with the smallest available pump, there's a **** of a lot of bubbles and the fish don't seem too keen on it at all!! Are wands really necessary in a tank this size? Is there anything actually WRONG with having a bubble wand? Or should I be patient and see if the fish warm to it? Thanks guys!!

Hi! I had to get an air valve, very cheap by the way, to control the airflow as I had the same prob! Looked like a glass of champagne in my tank. The valve will do it, you connect your air line to the valve and run your other piece of air line to the bubble wand. The air valve has a control for the air. You will love it! I am off to get another one today for another tankthe same reason! Especailly with this hotter weather, my tanks will get alot warmer and need the extra air.

You can also get airpumps with switch control airflow. I always use these as they can go from 10 gallon to 100 gallon.

I have 2 corys that REALLY like to sit in the bubbles. I've found they like the undergravel airstone things (the ones i have are 9 inches long, and you just bury them under the gravel and the bubbles come out) the corys will swim up and down in these, they seem to really enjoy it! It's always another option to the bubble wands(bonus, they are hidden from sight too!)

Get an air control/gang valve. These things are great at controlling air flow.

Also, how many fish are you planning for that 10 gallon tank? At the moment, it sounds as if you are overstocked by a bunch. 10 fish in a 10 gallon is fine, as long as they don't get over an inch long.

The rule of thumb is 1in of fish per gallon of water.

I recently purchased a bubble wall for my 20gal and was wondering if it will interfere with the filtering since the only place to put it is under the filter on the back of the tank.

I haven't had a problem with mine. I've used mine under my filters (pengiun biowheel mini and whisper 20/40) since I got them 4 months ago and haven't noticed a problem. What kind of filter do you have? Maybe someone else can give some insight or personal experience as well.

Its a top fin 30. I havent had problems with it just wondering if the bubbles will keep waste and debris from getting to the intake. My fish seems to like the bubbles also

I guess if you see the substrate getting unusually dirty or the water isn't as clean as it should be, consider moving it. Otherwise you shouldn't have a problem (mine seem to work fine)

You gotta try and put the air stone/bubble wand in a place where the bubbles won't get sucked up in to the intake tube of your filter. The air from the bubbles aren't good for the filter. Other than that, air stones or bubble wands shouldn't affect the filtering.

Well... that was why i asked the question is the first place. Tell me this though. Why would they make a bubble wall the length of the aquarium when it can only be placed on the back of course, and the filter goes on the back also
Anyway I got a shorter one that doesnt send air bubbles to the filter just in case.

I have a 10 gallon tank and a bubble wand going across the back.. along with a clam that bubbles in the front.

My fish LOVE the bubbles... they swim in them all the time. And the wand goes all across the back, including under the filter and I've never had a problem. I do use a whisper pump though.
