Switching air pumps.

Hi. I'm in the midst of setting up a new tank for my betta, coolie. I got the tank and extra's for him yesterday. It all looks good however the filter is a little 1-3 gal tetra whisper. The whole thing is driven by air apparently (didn't know that till I opened the box oh well) but the pump that comes with it is so noisy it's driving me nuts! The tank is in my room and it isn't going to be moving so what would be the best to replace that pump with. Does it matter how big it is? I don't really want to buy a 10 gal air pump for a 2.5 gal tank.
Thanks for taking the time to help.

Have you tried putting a towel under the air pump?

Yeah the air pump is on a towel and I've tried picking it up but it's not the vibrations that are making the noise (I've got another air pump on my other tank that's almost silent once there's a towel under it.) However this one's just loud. Even when you pick it up the niose doesn't change.

I've not used that particular model, but it sounds defective to me. I'd replace it with a basic air pump. You can get a gang valve to control the rate of air flow so that it's not overwhelming.

I don't know if it's defective, it's working fine and doing it's job it's just loud about it. I was thinking of swapping it out for either the Rena 50 or the tetra whisper 10 gal. However I don't know if the 10 gal would be too big.

If you put a gang valve on it, you can adjust the flow and it will be just fine.
