I'm kicking myself in the hindquarters for getting this pump with my setup. It's only been with my 75g for 3.5 months and I believe it's died.

It's become very loud (far from a whisper) and is hardly blowing any bubbles through my bubble wand. Are the Rena pumps decent? I need to replace it ASAP.

Also, I was wondering if some of the more tenured fish keepers could tell me if it would be alright to turn it off for a day or two until the new one arrives? I'm worried the buzzing noise is bothering my fish more than the lack of bubbles. I have two of the AquaClear 50 gallon filters on the tank as far as filtration. I'm just worried about taking away all of their bubbles.

Funny as it may seem, the 2-outlet air pumps that walmart sells for around $10-12 have done a super job for us as well as operated quietly the past year.

You definitely got a defective unit and deserve a replacement from the store.

I think it would be fine to turn it off a day or two. If they show any signs of distress you could turn it on again, but I really doubt they would have any trouble.

Thanks a bunch! I ordered the current one from Big Al's and have never had to return anything to them. I'll figure that out over the weekend and get another one ordered today.
