Is it OK to leave my air pump off while I sleep?

The thing is, it's kinda noisy (despite being "guaranteed no noise" and me performing all the troubleshooting recommended...), and my tank is in my bedroom - I can sleep with the noise from the filter, but not with the air pump, although I guess I could get used to it if I had to. It oxygenates the tank really well (the whole tank is full of tiny bubbles), and there is lots of surface agitation from both the air pump and my filter. I have live plants in there too to help, but I'm worried the oxygen for the fish might get depleted at night especially as there are more fish in there now. I've also read about pH fluctuations caused by air pumps... anyway, could someone please tell me if it'd still be safe for my fish if it's off 8/9 hours at night?

This is it:

Cheers

You can leave it off during the night. You can test for pH change several days while doing this and if there are none don't worry about it. Also if your fish seem to be struggling for breath when you wake up then you'll have to put it on at night, if not then you should be fine

Cheers for than Austin It'll be cool when i turn it on tomorrow morning - the neons are obsessed with playing in the bubbles and the filter stream

You shouldn't have a problem, I sometimes turn mine off and have no problems.

if you can adjust your filter flow, turning it up some during the night would help take the place ot the air pump at night. For the quietest air pump that i've found (and one that powers 8 air stones), look for the aqua-tech 2-output 20-60g air pump.. 9.97 at wally world and with 2 4-way gang valves it quietly powers the air for 8 tanks.

Yeah, I just turned it up and there is loads of surface agitation! Thanks Getting a new air pump isn't really an option right now (I'm already so deep in fish-debt ). I can't find that one you mentioned either, but that's probably because I'm in the UK. Everything's much more expensive here too

How does this one look?

I switch mine off at night. I can't sleep with noise! I'm ok with just the filters, but the Air Pump is too loud!

Maybe I'll try that, I have a tetra-tec deep water and it's extremely quiet, you can't hear it unless your right by the tank and even then it's not annoying. My aunt bought me a larger regular tetra air pump and it's loud. 9.99 at wal-mart is a good price, if it's as quiet as you say. I can't find any small tetra tec's so that might work for me

Re: Is it OK to leave my air pump off while I sleep?

I actually really like white noise when I'm sleeping. I love having the fan on in my room. Just set up a new tank in the bedroom and am looking forward to the filter noise while i sleep. Now my fiance may be another story. He bought me the tank, but has been at a wine tasting (for work) while I've set i up. We'll see how that goes over shortly.

I can't hear the pumps at all but they annoy the cr*p out of my husband. Go figure.
