35 gallon tank and africans

what are the chances that i could keep some africans? Im not really thinking about shell dwellers...

Just a colony of africans in a 35g?

tank dimensions are as follows:

36 inches long
19 inches high
13 inches width

i think i could pull it off... Maybe i could have a few in there

Hi Tony

You could definitely do a colony of africans in there. I would either look into doing 2 groups of peacocks (1 male & 2 females of one type and 1 male and 2 females of another), or cichlids from lake Victoria. They tend to stay smaller and have some stunning colors. My favorite is: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/article...rei_python.php

If you want to stock mbuna, you could do a group of about 4 yellow labs and a group of demasoni, or a group of yellow labs and a trio from the metriaclima genus.

Good luck with your tank

Alright, i am going to come up with a stocking list and you'll tell me what you think please.

Also, i have heard that africans do better overstocked?

For that size tank I would stick with the smaller species, like cynatilapia afra or demonsoni

Thanks guys.
I was thinking about stocking lists, and this is what i've come up with so far:
4 yellow labs (1m 3f)
4 demasoni's (1m 3f)
1 peacock
and 1 convict

is it too much? or is it do-able.... i could take out the peacock

ken, thanks for the link. I read through the whole thing and found it a little confusing LOL

My experience with the demasoni's they do better in a large large group like 7+ fish. I would keep out the peacock and convict, but thats just me. I know demasoni's are very aggressive little fish. The labs might work well with them depending on if the labs you get will hold their own. I have a lab group that keeps up with my kenyi's aggressiveness.
