Hi guys.

Im looking for someone who has some expreince with mbunas.

I just started and I dont know if its because im new or what, but I cant keep many alive

my pH is 8.

Temp is 80-82.

I had nine mbunas( check my pictures)

And now im down to four, but I cant figure out why im loosing them.

the tank isnt in your aquarium info so a few questions

how long has the tank been set up?
what are your water parimeters?
how many fish and what type of fish are in the tank?
are there tons of hiding spots?
what do you feed them?

ph sounds great and temps can go to 78 ish....

I cycled the tank for a long time before I actually added fish.

Tank is 60 gallons. Its full of texas holey rock or honey comb rock.

Just took nitirites which is 0. And no ammonia.

I feed them spiriluna flakes , along with regular tropical flakes and sometimes freeze-dried bloodworms.

Ive had the tank with fish in it for about a month. No other species except mbuna

so if you have only had it for a month with fish, did you cycle it some other way? what test kit do you use and do you have nitrates?

mbuna need to be heavily overstocked otherwise aggression with each other will end up with the strongest surviving...are you finding your dead fish with marks on them? do you have any other caves other than the holy rock?

they also need a ton of fresh veggies and big leafed green lettuce is a favorite of my mbuna...they tear it up fast....id drop the tropical flakes and get the veggie flakes..omega one or kens fish foods makes a great cichlid formula...tetra doesnt have allot of nutrition and is more of a by product of fish food.....

All my holey rock is really...holey. hahah.

I have much of it, I dont think that would be the problem.

The spirluna based flake I used arent tetra. Would they still be ok?

spirulina is great....tetra isnt so great..their foods arent very healthy for fish and are just a popular name ...they are full of a bunch of bi products.....
