My new kids!

A very nice woman gave me her 75 gallon tank, 405 Fluval, stand, hood, and fish! It belonged to her husband, who recently passed away.

There was:
15 Orange Zebra Cichlids
1 Yellow Labidochromis
1 Green Terror
1 Jack Dempsey
1 12" bala shark
2 12" Plecostomus

Obviously this was WAY too many fish and the wrong kind to keep together. Her daughter took 8 of the Zebras and I kept 3 Zebras and the Yellow Labidochromis. The rest I brought in to work (I work at a pet store).

Now I have:
3 Orange Zebra Cichlids
1 Yellow Labidochromis Cichlid
1 Demasoni Cichlid
1 EB Johanni Cichlid
1 Accei Cichlid
1 Auratus Cichlid
2 Jewel Cichlids

Do these sound okay together? So far they are getting along great! This is my first cichlid tank.

Your jewel cichlids are from South America. They really need to be in a tank by themselves. They are very aggressive during spawning.

Your auratus is a Lake Malawi cihlid, but one of the more aggressive. It may cause trouble later on with your labs and zebras.

Also, you may want to check your pH. I keep my Africans at 7.8-8.0. They're very colorful, happy, and growing quickly.

Hope this helps. Congratulations on your new additions. Africans are so much fun.

Hmm. All the information I've read says that Jewel Cichlids are African Cichlids. They are from a different lake though.

jewels are from africa but they seem to care for the lower side of the ph compared to the others you have in your tank....but they all can be aclimated to a 7.6-7.8 range ...agression will change in the africans as they get use to one another and all the moving/stress...so then you will want to stock the proper 1m/2-3f ratio and not sure the jewels will be able to hold their own then .congrats!

You're correct. I apologize. I should've verified my information first.

Shawnie has some great (and correct) information for you
