I don't know anything about African Cichlids.I need to know all about them.It will be my first time keeping them...how many should i keep in the tank ...If am keeping African Cichlids how many male and how many female.What fish can i keep them with them.

I agree with gmen...no africans will make it in a 10 gal and they will kill one another...Id say minimum of 40 gals to start with africans and 55 is even better...

Agree with above. African's are really hard to get a handle on with all the groups and sub-groups (still trying to figure out exactly what mine are LOL). Def research all you can first, and go with a bigger tank. Good Luck!

Many of the beginner type cichlids require a 55 or as minimun a 40 gal tank. Sorry to tell you this but they will get big about 4 to 5 inches.

I don't know of any cichlids that would thrive in a 10g tank. If you'll go to the top right hand side of this screen and do a search for cichlids you'll find all kinds of information. Keep us posted and hope you can share some pictures once you're tank is up and running.

unfortunetaly, I have to agree with everyone else. 10 gals is way to small for a cichlid.
The even the smallest cichlids like in the Marlieri Cichlid need at the LEAST 35 gals, and even thats pushing it.

Well I got a page bookmarked at home that tells you about the beginners type of african cichlids. I think Mike sent it to me. It specifies by Lake and has fish profiles. Maybe some body here got it at hand. I'm at work so I got my hands tied.

I house my africans in a 55 gallon aquarium. I wouldn't advise any in a 10 gallon.

African cichlids require at least a 55g tank that is 4 foot long or longer.

I think with all the posts, she knows that the tank isnt big enough hopefully she agree's with all the members and maybe we can help with other stocking plans
