You have to understand that I know next to nothing about that type of cichlids but as it happens I was reading this. http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.u....php?news=1457
Does this apply to your fish Shawmie ?

The egg spot doesn't id gender, or the cichlid persay but they are on all lake malawi cichlids and are part of breeding. There are some species of mbuna that the females will have 4-5 egg spots, some just one... and same for males.
Interesting article!
so their eggspot is on their anal fin? not on their belly's? these are not easy fish are they LOL
I love learning/reading about different stuff and PFK (practical Fish keeping mag) is always interesting. I don't think you can get it in the states.

Your top 2 fish are males the melachromis, and yellow kenyi is a male. The melachromis aurartus is male. I don't want to say on the zebras because I am having issues figuring out mine.
someday when we are all free with time (a joke now a days I know) im going to get pics to find out exactly what he has and what sex...these fish are amazing but the toughest for me to do either ...again, its the closest in color variation that ill ever get to salties
