For Angela :)

I have an assortment of mbuna (for the most part, I have a few other africans in there) in my 70 gallon tall tank. The tank only has 3 feet of length though, so I was thinking of moving them over to my 80 gallon (4ft) tank. The fish are starting to grow and I want to give them the extra swimming space If you could give me feedback on my stocklist I would really appreciate it. Can I add any other species? Should I add more females? I would like to add one more female of each species if at all possible.

3 Pseudotropheus Elongatus (1M, 2F)
3 Zebra Obliquidens (1M, 2F)
4 Yellow Labs (2M, 2F)
1 Red Shoulder Peacock (I'm thinking of getting him a couple females)
3 Metriaclima Greyshaki (1M, 2F)
3 Red Zebras (1M, 2F)
2 Synodontis Catfish

BTW: I know you shouldn't mix mbuna from the same genus and that my red zebras and greyshakis might end up being a problem......If I am not planning on raising the fry and crossbreeding isn't an issue, could I keep both species in my tank?

I wouldn't worry so much about the crossbreeding as the fighting. I had a lot of "mixes" when I set my first mbuna tank up and I had a red zebra, cobalt zebra, greyshaki, kenyi, and red top zebra. I had major fighting issues with the boys. The biggest issue was the greyshaki and the red top zebra.
The kenyi took over the tank, and all the other met species have been the end result.

I wouldn't ad any more species in the tank. I would say 3 species for a 55, 4-5 at the most for 75-90gallon.

Thanks so much for responding so fast Angela I wasn't thinking of adding more species. I think I will move my peacock out of the tank and then add one more female to each of my groupings. How does that sound? I'll keep an eye on the Red Zebras and Greyshakis and if there is any aggression at all, I'll separate them asap.

So how does this sound:
Yellow Labs: 2M, 3F
Elongatus: 1M, 3F
Red Zebras: 1M, 3F
Obliquidens: 1M, 3F
Greyshaki: 1M, 3F

Should be fine, I hope it works out. Sometimes they will.

Thanks Angela I'll post pics when I get it up and running. I have to wait until we move in three weeks though. IMO that's the perfect time to re-do a tank since I'll have to completely break everything down anyways.
