Auratus Behaviour.

So since i've gotten my auratus cichlid they do this thing. They'll do it for a few minutes at a time (1-3) before stopping and any of the other cichlids that try to interfere they chase after. is this a dominance thing? Just curious.

interesting, it definitely looks like a dominance thing. how long has it been going on?

They are "devil fish" to say the list. Ihave a male kenyi that owns 3/4 of my 55g tank and attacks everything that gets in his area. Including a hand on the tank.
Def a Dom thing, ,they want to "own the tank".

My Gold Danios did the exact same thing, I started to see them getting more aggrasive to other fish and had to give them away.

yeah i was thinking it was a dominance thing. it's been going on since i got them (about 2-3 weeks ago?) and i'm probably going to have to get rid of them as they get older because i also have johannis in the same tank (guy at LFS told me auratus were a pseudo group, stupidly i believed him) so far they get along fine with the johannis and all the other fish though so as of now it's not really a problem

If it were me and I had my choice of which to get rid of the Aurartus would be on my list and I wo uld keep the johannis. IMO the johannis are more colorful. Then I have also read that the johannis are not nearly as aggressive.

Well that's what i would end up doing. once the auratus begin getting too aggressive i'd probably get rid of them and keep the johannis. or maybe i'll get lucky and the auratus will stay the way they are and not bother any of the others. who knows
