Sorry to be a knit picker, demasoni need to be in large groups like 8-12 or more per species. Malawi set ups should be 1 male to 2 female at least. They don't pair off, they breed with as many of their own females as possible. If not they tend to get nasty. One species per type, hongi and labs are the same labdiochromis species.
My 55g has just acei, hongi SRT and cobue afra about 30 2.5" fish until I ween out the males.

Good luck with your Malawis. It take awhile to learn the right combo of cichlids, but it is worth in the end.

My hongi srt seem to keep my demasoni in place. There more agressive to the demasoni not the other fish. When the Demasoni chase a fish the hongi will in turn chase the demasoni back to his cave. I have about 9 caves and a lot of good places for fish to hide. But it seems that the fish can all come out of there spots and have fun. A tif here and there but no real damage yet and I hope that it stays that way. Not all the fish are the same. Nature works in diffrent ways in diffrent places mybee this will work. I might get another hongi he seems to balance the tank. I HOPE IT WORKS.
