What kind of cichlid is this?

I swear I know this fish, but I can't remember the name! Any takers? Is it a johanni?

Thanks!

Agreed with this ID. Melanochromis johannii.

Thanks, MrsMuffin! Bingo! LOL! Are your eyes getting "fish fuzzy" too?

I can't believe I didn't know for sure. He looks just like the picture and I know I went to that site in my research. Well, I've started a new job and I think it's eating my brain!

So I've ended up with another pretty blue fish that is well known for aggression. I am doomed. Can you believe this beautiful fellow (and "Mom" thinks he's as pretty as the show male in the profile!) has been kept in a tank full of Frontosas, Blue Dolphins, Yellow labs, a zebra, a peacock, a clown loach and five catfish/plecos?!?

Thank you, Slug. Thank you, rifter098.

I now have three lovely aggressive blue fish that can't be housed together. One Ps. demasoni, one Ps. elongatus and one melanochromis johannii. I've spent the past year fighting to keep the first two alive in first a 20 gallon and then a 29. Just two days ago I finally got the aquarium of my dreams (a 110 long) and I still have stocking issues.

Next question: how do I talk husband into getting two more big tanks?

haha i guess u have tamed some wild beasts
these guys will do fine in a 110 as long as you provide cover from rocks/plants/other decorations

I feel like the neverending newbie. I now have 18 fish I cannot house together comfortably in less than three tanks. I have a husband who has declared his undying love for the fish we've had for a whopping 48 hours and who refuses to give up any of them. In the meantime, my original two fish (and reason for buying the big tank) are still suffering in quarters too small.

The really sad part is that I did not choose ANY of these fish! I have not yet had the pleasure and anxiety of picking that perfect little guy from the LFS and transporting him carefully in his bag to his new home. I had a dream of a beautiful tank full of mbuna and Texas holey rock with a sand substrate... Maybe a couple of live plants for them to destroy (why not? You should see what we let the dogs do to the yard)... Now I have two little killers in a 29 gallon divided and what can only be described as a grab bag of finny pigs in the 110.

Sorry for the venting. I am bummed.
