I have 3 groups of juvies, 7 or more fish, how many to keep?

Okay I have ordered groups of the species I have picked out to breed, the cynatilapia afra hai reefs there are 7 of them (I know I have 2 males now after they have grown and colored up), I know I only want 1 male in the tank, but how many females to keep?

Then the polits are the same they have 2 males in the group and 5 females, how many to keep?

And lastly 8 psuedo flavus I cannot sex them yet due to their size (only 3/4 an inch long)....

The flavus and polits will not be housed in the same tank, the cynatilapia afra polits and I will be getting lab (red top hongi) to go in w/ them in the 58g... The flavus, kenyi pair or greyshaki trio, and lab trio, and tropheops lilac will be housed together in the same tank, now 55g soon to be 75-90g.

I am guessing at least keeping a trio of each?

In my experience, I would go with 1 male to 2-3 females. I have not had experience with those particular species though.

Yup one male per two to 3 females for all Malawi species. The more aggressive the male, the more females.

I would suggestthat you keep as many females as you have the space to keep.

thanks, I am planning to pluck out the males soon, I just wanted to keep all the fish for a while first and see who is the more colorful, and make sure the fish were healthy.
I will prob keep at least 3 of the females per male, maybe more females.

We've ended up with extra males too. A Cobalt and an acei suddenly turned into a male.

I ordered groups of 1.5 inch juvies, so thats how we ended up w/ the extra males, still we have plenty females. Its just so much cheaper to buy them at that size and raise them, and the ones I ended up w/ are f1's.
