Peacock Cichlid Feeding problems...

Okay I know w/ the mbunas you have to watch feeding them blood worms, and meaty foods (I have a rigid sced of every other day on weekdays, and skipping the weekends and on the days they get them they only get spiurlla flakes for their other feedings). Then on reg days they get cichlid flakes (low protein that I could find) and then spirulla rotated....
-still wondering about putting veggies like peas, lettuce in the tank...

anyways... our peacocks are grumpy grumbles when it comes to flake day, they don't touch the algae in their tank, I am having to clean it myself, (well i put a pleco in there the other day to help me).. and the only time they do eat well is when its bloodworm day....

So today, I had a frozen entree of cichlid delight and gave them a cube of it, w/ brine shrimp in it... they ate it up, but yesterday they had blood worms....

I know they are carnivores.... but I don't want them hooked on frozen food everyday...

any suggestions for the picky eaters

I've never had the problem with them not eating flakes. Now there was a certain brand of cichlid pellets my last bunch of africans hated....I can't remember what they were. They were in a purple bag.
I just mix the vegies flakes and the meat flakes in one container. That way everyone gets a bit of everything.

Do you give frozen or live to your mbunas? Or reg veggies? I am so picky w/ the eating sced because the malawi bloat incident... I had fed them brine shrimp that day, then my husband came home and overfed them that night (he took the container over the tank as if it were a salt shaker) I lost 2 cichlids from that, one of them was my fav kenyi male he was beautiful!

Now the pellets.. they don't like that much in the peacock tank.. but the mbuna tank they will swallow those pretty much whole...

I think the peacocks are trying to "train" me to give them frozen food only....

Not frozen too much. They get peas, zucchini, cucumber (they love). You can try any green vegie.
lol Fussy peacocks.
Our Datnoid will only eat frozen shrimp & blood worms...he stares at me until he sees me get up. He will take the shrimp right from my fingers.

I have some fresh peas I think I will clean some up for them today.. this summer it will be veggie city! My mil has a giant garden, so I will have access to all the zucchini, peas, anc cucumber I want.. fresh and organic (they don't use any chemicals or fertilizers at all, which I love!) the garden gets rotated every year.. thats how my dad did his and it works perfect... if the cichlids only knew what I have in store for them....

I don't know why i haven't given them any veggies... but I will start today.
