I dont know the species but I do know how to sex the african cichlids. If it is an african cichlid than they will have yellow egg spots on the anal fin. Notice the yellow spot on this juvenile cichlids anal fin. http://www.fishlore.com/fishpicture/...php/photo/3709
( that is one of my cichlids for the photo contest, feel free to vote on any of them)

Not always...females have egg spots too. They are usually darker and 3+ spots on males. What size are your fish? Those pixs aren't enough to properly idea african cichlids. They look young.

Almost all of my cichlids have eggspots even my female (def female) kenyi. so I know the eggspots are meaningless.... sexing africans are specis specific. for instance w/ kenyi the female's are blue, the males are yellow. Then you get more specific to anal fin colors w/ labs, and so on.. .

The yellow one's eyes are too big to be a Kenyi... unless it's a juvenile, in which case it isn't a Kenyi because they are blue when they're young, right? And the head shape isn't quite right...

its "orange blotched" however the color of the "blotch" can vary, under the cichlid forum profiles you can see in the mbuna there are a bunch of different "ob" cichlids.

It's a marmalade cat (common name) which is NOT a zebra it's a Labeotropheus fuelleborni (OB). They get pretty aggressive. I had some for a bit a long time ago and only for a bit.
There are a few types from different parts of Lake Malawi here's a link you can check out.

I never heard ob zebras called that here. I usually go by what the cichlid forum or my Ad Koninigs book. There was a man who had his own cichlid shop..hobby gone wild. He knew a lot about LM cichlids. I wanted an OB zebra "Blueberry" form, but call it a marmalade cat(didn't noticed that they had different mouths)...he corrected me obviously. lol

I agree w/ your ID btw after looking at the Lab that you mentioned.... The whole marmalade cat thing got me interested in it when I bought a ob zebra and when I looked the fish up to read more about it there were a ton of sites that called the fish a marmalade cat, then when you actually look at it they have specific markings to qualify them as a marmalade cat, if I am understanding it correctly? So that would mean that the zebras can be marmalade cats, only if their markings are in a certain pattern. The ob peacock I got, regretedly it being a hybrid, was because of finding a picture of one in a book and loving the markings, if I had known more about the specifics at that time, I would have gotten the above labs like this guy has, they are beautiful! Plus I wouldn't have a hybrid fish in my tank, I love the little guy as much as the rest but it has a nasty temper, its the only "peacock" I have had to put w/ the mbuna because of that, and its a male w/ all males right now I plan to keep it that way to keep it from breeding.
I am guessing its just like the kenyi's should only have 5 bars to be a good quality fish.

Thanks for the Id on the first one here is the yellow one now I don't think he or she is Kenyi though what you think? and is it male or female? same with the first one it has 4 egg spots so far yellow one none. So does that make the yellow one female and the OB male?

here is my male kenyi to compare.
I think yours is a met zebra male with him being a yellow and not the bright orange. I could be completly off here but I am sure its not a kenyi. With the colors and face shapes I am guessing met zebra female.
