They ganged up and killed my larger pleco!

I noticed he had some rough spots on him this morning, and well not trying to be a bad fishkeeper but I had spent the night at the hospital with my 5 year old son (he has pnemonia) we got home at 8am this morning... I went straight to bed...
when I woke up at 6p this evening he was dead and beat all to heck! My smaller pleco which is a different species of pleco is okay...

My husband and I during our biweekly water change moved the rocks around to kind of lower aggression and territories... (they are our first 5 cichlids in the tank)... will this help?
I guess I will just have to search for another pleco with tougher skin like my smaller pleco?

Did you see any aggression toward the pleco when it was alive. If not then the pleco died first from probably some water condition then the cichlids must have nipped at the dead carcass, and if that is not the case usually aggressive fish attack slow moving non aggressive fish when in groups.

The water parameters were perfect all week... I have kept the water changes up, the nitrates and nitrites next to 0 if not 0, ammonia was neg, chlorine neg, ph 7.8 (for cichlids), water temp 78.... I have 2 filter systems... He looked this morning like they had been picking on him... Honestly I think the Kenyi did the biggest part, he is very aggressive and he was hanging in the back of the tank yesterday for some odd reason, and then this today... now he is back in the front of the tank acting normal...
Otherwise my other fish are happy and healthy, the other pleco is nonfin nipped, healthy and happy...

Actually we do 2 water changes a week.... to add to that plus I check the water chem every other day so if I need to add to the water changes I can....
