COLORS OF Juvenile Johanni Cichlids..??

CAN ONE DISTINGUISH THE GENDER OF JUVENILE JOHANNI CICHLIDS BY IT'S COLOR? I JUST BOUGHT 3 AND THE SALESPERSON AT THE FISH STORE SAID IT CAN'T BE DISTINGUISH YET BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY "YOUNG".

I haven't had Melanochromis JOHANNI. I am keeping other Malawi cichlids. By 2 inches + you should be able to start seeing a difference in the sexes. Here`s some info on the species:

You could always ask teh people on this Malawi forum too,

I Have Read In The Net That Female Johannis Have Yellow Or Yellow Orange While The Males Have Bluish Color, But All The Juvenile Johannis Where I Bought My Johannis Are Somewhat Bluish In Color. They Are About 1 Inch In Length. Is It Possible That The Females Have Not Yet Reach Full Colorirization? Or Can Anyone Tell Me If Young Females Are Suppose To Be Yellowish Color By "birth"?

Yellow is female...they are all born yellow...the links I left you shows that.

I have 2, and my female is the same color (only not as "brilliant" as the male). They have bred, so I know she's a she! (I have babies to prove it!)
The only difference I can tell between the two, becides the dull/bright colors, are the egg spots. The female has 1, and the male has several, 5 I think.

OK THANK YOU ALLIE. I HAVE READ THE LINKS YOU HAVE LEFT FOR ME BEFORE BUT I WAS WONDERING HOW ON EARTH CAN A TANK WITH ALMOST 60 JUVENILES HAVE ALL BLUE COLORS MEANING THEY ARE ALL MALES AND NOT A SINGLE FEMALE IN THE ENTIRE STORE. THAT'S WHY I ASKED AGAIN JUST TO BE SURE. . BY THE WAY THANKS FOR THOSE INFORMATIONS.
