Hello everyone! This is my first post. I have been having a 30 gallon aquzrium with tropicals, like guppies, platys, etc., but got a 55 gallon today. I want some colorful fish in it. I have been thinking about putting African cichlids in it. I went to Petsmart today (only thing available near me), and looked at their cichlids and talked with a salesperson. Since I want color, what would you suggest? I can't remember the names of all of them, but I looked at some yellow ones, red ones and striped ones. How many can I put in a 55 gallon tank? Should I buy small ones, or the larger ones? I know I will have more questions, but I think that is enough for now. I plan to set up the 55 gallon tomorrow and let it run for about a week before adding fish. Is there anything I need to know about set-up? Thanks!

Oh my gosh! those Lake Malawi's are awesome! That is what I would love to have, a nice assortment of color. Where would I find fish like this?

you should post on steveangela1's page, she breeds malawi mbuna and lots of other cichlids. IMO the best place to get cichlids is from a breeder, most stores will have them in "mixed african" tanks and it's nearly impossible to know exactly what you're getting, which is very important for cichlids since they have very specific compatibility requirements
