Oh, sigh... Gotta love the mistake on my friend's part.

She had him in a 30 gal with a Placostomus and her tank WAS very dirty. She was also feeding him goldfish flakes.

He seems ok, for today, in his 10 gal. He's only ~3 1/2 in. right now. Hubby & I were thinking of getting a 50 gal tank for him... Will this be big enough? His water is *sparkling* right now, and I plan on keeping it that way, even if water changes are a little more frequent than I'd like. He's got such an amazing personality! Never imagined we'd get attached to the 'little' guy.
He hasn't eaten anything since we brought him home. Is this normal? Is he stressed out? Can I do anything for him? Thank you for your advice.
