Aquarium Fish Definition and Glossary

Jaubert System :: is a biological filtration method first developed by Dr. Jean Jaubert for the Monaco Museum. This system requires the use of a deep sand bed, under which there is a plenum that consists of aquarium water with low levels of oxygen. This system promotes the growth of denitrifying bacteria in the lower levels of the deep sand bed. These denitrifying bacteria convert nitrate to nitrogen gas which escapes via the water surface.
