Choosing Fish for Your Aquarium

A complete guide to tropical freshwater brackish and marine fishes
Author: Mary Baily and Gina Sandford, Anness Publishing Ltd. (2000)

Choosing Fish for Your Aquarium

This is basically a large book of freshwater, brackish water, and saltwater fish profiles. The cover of the book is all saltwater fish and it seems a little misleading because the book mostly contains freshwater profiles. Most of the popular freshwater fish from each of the families are covered in fairly good detail. Each profile comes with really nice photos and describes the behavior, compatibility, tank size required and breeding habits of each fish.

The best part of Choosing Fish for Your Aquarium is probably the breeding information presented in the profiles. If you're interested in breeding tropical fish you may want to take a look at this book. It talks about ways to distinguish the different sexes in various fish species, how to prepare for spawning and other details on how each fish breeds.

Fish Profiles Covered

Choosing Fish for Your Aquarium is a good introduction into some of the most popular aquarium fishes available. If you're a saltwater or brackish water hobbyist you should probably not buy it, but freshwater hobbyists would definitely benefit from reading this book. We give it 3.5 stars
